Fort Lincoln has a little bit of everything.

Fort Lincoln cannot be pigeonholed as suburban, or urban, because it combines the best of both. First and foremost, is its place in nature. On the northeastern border of Washington, D.C., where suburban Maryland and its parks begin, it explodes in the Spring and Summer with a canopy of foliage as far as the eye can see.

Fort Lincoln Park

Located high on a ridge overlooking Washington, D.C. from the northeast, the 6-acre Fort Lincoln Park, has five open-air pavilions high above street level, that are surrounded by tennis courts, baseball diamonds, swimming pool, soccer and basketball courts. And the park, itself, is being treated to a $10 million dollar facelift to also serve as a natural venue for evening outdoor entertainment and picnicking.

Nestled between seventeen different housing developments, Fort Lincoln Park meshes with the natural landscape and forested paths that connect it to the community’s largest townhome development.

And, if you desire retail therapy, Fort Lincoln has an adjoining 26-store shopping center, with clothing, furnishing, fast food and sit down restaurants, a pet supply store, and sporting, health food and home improvement retailers who complement D.C’s only Costco.

The Future of Fort Lincoln

$20 million has been dedicated to the planning and construction of an adjoining state-of-the-art community center tailored to the needs of this now 5,400 person community. The Fort Lincoln Civic Association is lobbying to provide a facelift for the Hagans Cultural Center, which is dedicated to the District’s largest senior population.

Playing a coordinative role, to ensure this racially, economically and age-diverse community meets the needs and achieves the goals set by the administration of President Lyndon Baines Johnson in the 1970s for a model planned community, is the Fort Lincoln Civic Association. Its 17-member Board of Directors represents the seventeen housing developments in and contiguous to the 360 acre planned community.

All have an appreciation for, and dedication to, preserving and enhancing the green space that defines and distinguishes this suburban-urban oasis.
